Dwell Development Wins Department of Energy’s 2018 Housing Innovation Award

Seattle home by Dwell Development wins DOE’s prestigious Housing Innovation Award which recognizes the nation’s top builders paving the way to zero energy ready homes.

The U.S. Department of Energy has announced that Dwell Development’s Genesee Park Net Zero home in Seattle, Washington has won a 2018 Housing Innovation Award in the Custom Spec category!

The DOE Housing Innovation Awards celebrate the nation’s very best in zero energy ready home innovation and honor forward-thinking builders at the cutting edge of home energy savings, comfort, health and durability.

Dwell Development’s Genesee Park Net Zero—along with 27 other homes across the country—was selected by a panel of national building industry experts. The 3,700 square-foot home near the shores of Seattle’s Lake Washington has a free-flowing floor plan filled with natural light, airy living spaces, flexible bonus rooms, and indoor/outdoor entertainment areas. The home’s design includes an array of reclaimed, local, and recycled materials and features an innovative combination of green building techniques and systems including a 9.0 kW rooftop solar array, airtight building envelope, high performance windows, 12-inch thick walls packed with insulation, high efficiency heating, and solar thermal technology for hot water.

Judges scored each application based on various criteria including energy performance metrics, land development, design, quality construction, sales and marketing, consumer education, and business metrics.

Next up, the DOE’s panel of judges will determine this year’s Grand Winners for each of their five award categories: Custom Buyer, Custom Spec, Affordable, Multifamily, and Production. Grand Winners will be announced on October 16th at the Housing Innovation Awards Ceremony.
